The forum turned out to be a bit of a failed experiment (I like to think this is because the Facebook page and comments across the site provide all we really need in the way of a forum).  I'll leave these pages here for a while longer, because some cool people have posted some good information below.  And if you'd like to be the one to resurrect the forum, everything still works -- have at it!

I spent last Saturday night at the Copake Falls area of the Taconic State Park, located in Copake Falls, NY. You would pass it if you did Mike's Brace Mountain hike. Info here: http://newyorkstateparks.reser.....parkId=410

There are 4 loops in the campsite. Avoid Loop A. The Loop A tent sites are on platforms and right next to each other. I stayed in Loop B, which I thought was fine. If you search for reviews, many will say that this is a loud campsite. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I could have just been lucky. The bathrooms were clean enough and I heard the shower facilities were acceptable (I did not use them). There are several hiking trails with one leading to Bish Bash Falls. The trailhead for Mike's Brace Mountain hike is about 10 minutes from the campsite.

I had a blast. It had been a while since I had been camping and I wanted to start with something like a state park. So if you like campfires and drinking the occasional beer, this place might be for you. Cheers!

Stayed again last night after hiking to Bash Bish Falls. Another great experience at this campsite. And the falls are gorgeous!

My wife has been bugging me about camping this summer, I think she has romantic notions of it though and am not sure she knows what she could be in for. That said, this looks like a good place to hit so I can get some hiking in...

Hey Jeff. Have you ever been to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation? They have lean-to camping sites and good hiking trails. I haven't been there in ages, but it used to be great. It's close to you too. You might want to check that out with the wife.

Yeah I went once, but really need to explore it further. I just realized that we were at Copake Lake last year. My mother in law goes to a retreat up there that's East of the lake and we saw some fireworks there.
